You may read it and not be bothered by the same things that I was, so I would suggest giving it a try! ![]() However, I had high hopes for this story and I really wanted to love it, but I just couldn’t. I had problems the characters at times, but that doesn’t mean I hated it. Overall, I thought the book was just okay. The last quarter of the book is what really saved the story for me. Just when I thought they were getting there, Amelia’s insecurity would creep in. To me, it feels like it takes forever for Amelia and Justin to be on the same page as one another. There is a lot of arguing, ignoring, and mixed signals for about the first three-quarters of the book. I wasn’t sure how they were going to work out their problems, especially with Justin’s serious girlfriend thrown into the mix. A Thin Line Between Love and Hateįor the most part, I enjoyed Justin and Amelia’s story. Over the course of a summer, they try to work through their problems, but it isn’t an easy road to travel. ![]() ![]() There is a lot of animosity and tension between them, but Amelia is determined to become best friends with Justin again even if it kills her. When we meet Amelia and Justin, Amelia’s grandmother has left each of them half of a beach house and they haven’t seen each other in almost 10 years. When you read a Penelope Ward romance, you are guaranteed an angst-filled roller coaster of emotions, and RoomHate definitely delivers in that department. ![]() 6/12/2023 0 Comments Books like the kite runner![]() ![]() ![]() Maximum readers can relate the story with themselves. ![]() The book is draining, infuriating, agonizing, frustrating and excruciating book but it’s also hopeful, moving and heartwarming book. The book shows the cultural of Afghanistan, a beautiful friendship, life time regret beautifully. There are so many characters in this book.Īll characters were so richly developed. The book shows incredibly heartbreaking journey. Readers across the world found it very presentable and deliberate. The book is greatly appreciated for the arcs of the story, development of the characters, the themes and the symbolism. Eventually, that becomes about as interesting as listening to someone go over and over and over their breakup with someone they've dated for only three weeks an obsession no one else shares. Part of the problem with the way the story is told is that it really feels like the author is trying to work out some of "his" (there is speculation that Nace may actually be a woman) issues and twisted aggression here. Finally, when the long-awaited revenge commences, we’re ready for the book to be over. Really.Īs told here with all the panache of a child pulling wings from a fly, the story is repetitive and monotonous, as our anti-hero, Dyke Mellis, trains the giant insects to not eat him for a good three-quarters of the book’s 160 pages. ![]() Years later he plots revenge using a horde of human-sized, flesh-eating praying mantises. One of them tries to abscond with the cash, and the others cut off his dick. Its basic plot is intriguing enough for fans of the lurid, just like me: A quartet of men rob and murder an old man for his stashed loot. Eat Them Alive, written by Pierce Nace (a supposed pen name), is a pretty bad book. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Soon, they will learn they have never been forgiven… and a supernatural vengeance awaits them all. Rose is a teenager coming from Ireland in 1911 with her mother, father, younger sisters and baby brother. To quote from the review of the hardcover in KLIATT, March 2002: This begins as a rather standard coming-to-America story, featuring the Atlantic crossing, the Statue of Liberty, and Ellis Island-all new, of course, to YA readers who don't know this tale, which was the experience of millions of immigrants to America. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Yes, it works with ebooks, too I don’t have time to explain how. More in my full review below Book Synopsisįrom the writer of the cult sensation John Dies at the End comes another terrifying and hilarious tale of almost Armageddon at the hands of two hopeless heroes. I really appreciated the fact that Wong has scaled back the randomness a notch and focused on a thrilling and mind bending story that I could really invest in. Wong’s writing has this refreshing absurdity that I can’t seem to get from authors these days (other than Chuck Palahnuik). The John Dies At The End series is the definition of bizarre. If you want to ease into Wong’s writing then I recommend Futuristic Violence & Fancy Suits as a starting point. This series is not for everyone but it is exceptional enough to have a dedicated cult following. It is soooooo good to be back with this series! I am a huge fan of David Wong (Jason Pargin) and I can’t get enough if his writing. Summed up in a word: Outlandish First Impressions Sent to me by Titan Books in exchange for an honest review. ![]() ![]() ![]() I liked Sophia more than I liked Emma, first, because I related to her a lot more. I should have been able to relate to her subplot of not being out to her parents, having gone through exactly the same thing, but it didn’t get enough attention and development. Everything is about her: her feelings, her ideas, what she wants to do. She’s melodramatic and her actions are selfish and juvenile. Emma isn’t just a diehard romantic she’s so preoccupied with love that it’s practically her only personality trait. Maybe I’m just too old and cynical for teenage love stories. ![]() But I have to be honest and say that I was hoping for more: more maturity, more complexity, more depth. The world needs more lighthearted gay romance. It was fun and light and entertaining, and I think the Emmas of the world will truly enjoy it, and that’s great. ![]() ![]() I don’t hate all romance, but it does take a lot more for a fictional romance to impress me, and this one didn’t quite hit the mark. And then you have your Sophias, who roll their eyes at rom-coms and take a more jaded approach to the whole concept of love and relationships. You have your Emmas, your diehard romantics who believe in happily ever after and have fallen head-over-heels in love with love. When it comes to romance, there are two types of people. Thank you to NetGalley and Random House Children’s for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review. ![]() 6/10/2023 0 Comments Bloodsounder's arc![]() Dark, witty, and full of wonder, Salyards's characters scream from the page." -Tim Marquitz, author of the Demon Squad series and Embers of an Age Veil of the Deserters builds upon the promise of Scourge of the Betrayer, continuing Salyards's unique blend of gritty realism, brutal action, and thoughtful introspection even as the story deepens with a host of intriguing revelations.
