6/9/2023 0 Comments Yertle the turtle read![]() Soeiro’s public rebuke of Trump’s act of goodwill shows why Banned Books Week remains necessary 35 years after its inception. While many of these cases may read as humorous, the fact that parents and librarians are attempting to unfairly police what children read is quite scary. The library responded, “The children are actually told not to hop on Pop.” A parent in Toronto tried to ban Hop on Pop because she thought it would encourage children to use violence against their fathers.Ironically, none of the parents seemed to care that the Yertle character was based on Adolf Hitler. ![]() ![]() A school district in British Columbia removed Yertle the Turtle from libraries in 2012 because the line “I know up on top you are seeing great sights, but down here at the bottom, we too should have rights” was seen as a political message. ![]() ![]()
